Alli Hall- Focus Missionary
Dear St. Mary Star of the Sea Parish,
My name is Alli Hall and I graduated from Holy Rosary School in 2011. My time at Holy Rosary had an enormous impact on my faith and ultimately led to my conversion and entrance to the Catholic Church in 2016. This spring I graduated from the George Washington University in Washington DC, where my Catholic faith was a part of my every day life.
On my campus we had 4 Focus (Fellowship of Catholic University Students) Missionaries who taught me how to be a strong leader in the Catholic Church and to be able to share the gospel with other college students at GWU. Focus is the largest Catholic college outreach program in the US today and reaches out to tens of thousands of students on more than 150 college campuses with nearly 700 missionaries. College students are some of the most vulnerable people. 80% of college students have engaged in binge drinking (source: Addiction Center). Half say they struggle with mental health issues. Suicide is their second leading cause of death (source: CDC, 15-19 and 20-24, 2017). 85% of Catholics leave the Church after four years of the college experience (Pew 2009), and unlike generations before, they aren’t coming back.
This spring I was called to be a missionary and have decided to dedicate the next 2 years of my life serving the Lord on a college campus ministering to college students. The mission of Focus is to know Jesus Christ and fulfill His Great Commission. I am so excited for the opportunity to be able to continue growing in my own faith but more importantly to share it with some of the most vulnerable people, college students.
If you are interested in learning more about Focus and how you can support me on this mission, feel free to reach out to me by email or phone. I am so excited to share this incredible opportunity with our community!
